New Uses for Old Things

Howdy,

Today at work I am in the process of discarding several wallpaper books... Of course my mind immediately went to how can I reuse this?

Tip No.1
Use the pages to line your drawers. What a fun surprise to open the drawer to get the old sugar spoon and see a fun bright pattern, bringing joy to your morning coffee.

Tip No.2
Whether the dinner party you're hosting is a few close friends or a whole host of guess, you can use the pages as place mats. Coordinate the patterns with your color scheme, what a fun mix&match approach to casual dinner parties. Place those frozen casserole dishes a top a fun wallpaper sample on your buffet or kitchen table.

Tip No.3
In my precious niece's nursery, we framed a piece of wallpaper in several different frames bringing coherence to mix&match.

So, there you have it. Several ideas to reuse wallpaper from those discarded books..that are collecting dust on a shelf at your local wallpaper supplier.. Just go ask them if they have any books they are throwing away.

"New Uses for Old Things"

Dear Ones,

I want to introduce you to a little friend of mine.
Real Simple's "869 New Uses for Old Things"  an Encyclopedia of innovative ideas for everyday items. If you know me, than you would know, I love everything about that entire title and description.. It kind of describes a portion of my interest, passion and past-time enjoyment..

EeeK! I am so excited to share with you a new segment of inspiration and ideas... Each week i'll post ideas from this handy little encyclopedia of usefulness!!!

Week 1:
One might start at 'A' in an encyclopedia, however; I made a suggestion to a friend while working at the local paint store, which triggered me to start this post.
So i'm beginning this venture with the letter 'P' for "Paint Chips"....

What use do those pesky, paint chips have once the color has been chosen?
Yes you could throw them out or you could...

+Have a dinner party!
  -with each dinner guest choose a color name that describes them and have them sit at their specified color name card, and perhaps call them by their descriptive color name the entire night. {See if a nick-name comes about}

+If you don't like having people over, I would suggest using color chips as art. What?! Yeah, frame up 6 or so gradient hues {colors that are in the same family but are of a different shade, or saturation. Creating a monochromatic scheme} This is wonderful to use as way to bring your accent color into your room's design.
Or frame the same color chip over and over again to create a unique design that blends with the chosen wall color. This could be an interesting framed color blocking collage.

Think outside the norm when you pick up that color chip...

If you have any fun ideas on reusing "Paint Chips" post below!

Love

Painting No.2

Original Painting (not mine)

nb+design Abstract Painting No. 2
Painting No.2
Created by nb+designs Jan.2011
Green Abstract

Description:Painting No.2 is a lovely, earthy green, leafy background with hints of gold brushed washed over with a simple striped grey design. This piece is framed in a dark 3" wood frame with a tiny beaded design in the frames interior edge.
Dimensions:16"x20"

nb+design's view: Even though Venice was a beautiful painting, I wanted to take inspiration from one of my favorite artist, Maurice Denis. No, this piece is not an inspired piece based off his beautiful portrait of "The Muses", however; there is a lady in the inspiration piece, I personally find each piece enveloping. I happened across this one particular painting one rainy afternoon as I was strolling through, The Frist Museum. There she stood "Eva Meurier in a Green Dress 1891" if only, one could be more enraptured by a simple painting. A single element that has inspired Painting No.2 is how Denis painted over a painting, my initial thought was, "how resourceful!" From that moment on, Denis has had my heart.

SOLD
This piece was sold to a beautiful friend and her family! I am honored to have found such a wonderful home for this piece to reside, adorning her walls, accenting her color scheme and finding it's place among her chosen belongings.

Painting No.1

Every once in a while, i'll get a whim to paint. Usually with no other purpose than to challenge and express myself. Here is the latest painting...I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Note: let not nb+design's description  limit your response, be open to your expression of this painting. It is an abstract piece so it has no intended subject matter.

Golden Hill

Description: This abstract acrylic painting wraps around the left side of the canvas; coming to a point on the opposite side, leading the viewer's eye across the canvas. This gives an illusion of movement through a stationary form. An enveloping high gloss luster enhances the visual interest and protects the canvas from the elements.

nb+design's view: What is a 'Golden Hill'? In my perspective it is those moments in life that are the most important. The segments of life that are meant to be remember, usually due to heightened emotions, joyous experiences, conquering challenges, hardships and obstacles or just those simple moments of breathing in life.  Let these not these individual moments stand still, but move you forward.
